Research Assistant

Ava Homiar is a Research Assistant in the Division of Clinical Informatics at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her research focuses on evaluating the clinical utility of AI and digital technology for the monitoring and treatment of symptoms in individuals living with mental illness, as well as assessing patients’ ability and motivation to engage in digital care/research.

Ava’s prior work includes meta-analyses and LLM applications in mental health research as a part of the GALENOS Project at the University of Oxford. She also worked at the Krembil Centre for Neuroinformatics at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, where her research consisted of working with multimodal and longitudinal real-world datasets and developing people-centered AI & digital tech-enabled solutions.

Ava completed her Honors Bachelor of Science (HBSc) in Life Science in 2023 from McMaster University. She conducted an honors undergraduate thesis at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton in the Schizophrenia and Community Integration Service. The focus of her research was to assess the feasibility and acceptability of digital technology use in individuals with schizophrenia.
