Announcement: Dr. Yuri Quintana Elected Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI)
We are proud to announce that Dr. Yuri Quintana, Chief of the Division of Clinical Informatics at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, has been elected as a Fellow of the International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI). This prestigious honor is one of the highest recognitions in the field of biomedical and health informatics, awarded to individuals whose contributions have made a global impact.
The International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI), established in 2017 by the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), serves as an international honor society. Its mission is to contribute to the health and well-being of the world’s populations through health sciences informatics. Fellows are recognized not only for their technical expertise but also for their leadership in promoting education, research, policy, and collaboration across borders to address global health challenges.
Dr. Quintana’s Contributions to the Field
Dr. Quintana’s election reflects decades of pioneering contributions to global health informatics. He is widely recognized for:
- Global Digital Health Leadership: As founder and Chair of the DCI Network, he leads national initiatives focused on AI-enabled clinical decision support, consumer health applications, and responsible governance of healthcare AI.
- Innovative Platform Development: He created Alicanto Cloud, a collaborative learning platform for clinical decision-making, and InfoSAGE, a mobile app supporting family-based elder care and medication coordination.
- Groundbreaking Work at St. Jude: At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, he developed Cure4Kids—a global pediatric cancer education system used in over 100 countries—and POND4Kids, a leading international cancer registry.
- Research on Responsible AI: Dr. Quintana is a senior author on recent guidelines for AI-enabled clinical decision support (JAMIA, 2024) and consumer health AI governance (Int J Med Inform, 2025).
- Commitment to Health Equity: His work emphasizes creating accessible health technologies for low-literacy populations and underserved regions, including contributions to the European Gravitate Health and UNICOM initiatives.
- Mentorship and Capacity Building: He has mentored over 50 students and fellows across Harvard and global institutions, and serves on advisory boards for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health and the NIH D43 training programs in Africa.
Dr. Quintana is also a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI) and a Senior Scientist at Homewood Research Institute in Canada. He continues to advance international informatics standards, including HL7 FHIR, IDMP, and genomic data sharing protocols.
A Global Voice for Collaboration
The IMIA and IAHSI represent the global vanguard of biomedical informatics, promoting innovation, standardization, and collaboration through premier events like MedInfo and leading journals such as Applied Clinical Informatics and the Yearbook of Medical Informatics. IAHSI Fellows provide expert guidance to governments, non-profits, and international organizations on how informatics can solve real-world health problems.
Congratulations
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Quintana on this well-deserved honor and look forward to his continued contributions in shaping the future of health sciences informatics globally.
